Rice & Korean Beef Bowls

1 cup white rice
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb. ground beef
1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/2 tablespoon sesame oil
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 - 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/3 cup chopped green onions


  1. Cook white rice according to package directions or cook the way you prefer. In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium/high heat. Add the garlic and sauté for a minute. Add the ground beef, let it cook until it browns. Meanwhile, in a small dish, whisk together the brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, ground ginger and red pepper flakes. Pour mixture and green onions into the pan with the cooked meat, let it cook together for a couple of minutes to allow the flavors to combine well.
