    • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, or 1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour and 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (which is what I used)
    • 1 tablespoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
    • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
    • 4 ounces (half of a regular store-bought block) extra sharp cheddar cheese, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
    • 1 cup pilsner beer (I used Lagunitas Pils)
    • 1/2 cup sour cream
    • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
    • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
