    Ingredients

    • For the moussaka:
    • 2 large eggplants
    • 3 large potatoes
    • 2 tbsp olive oil
    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
    • 1 1/2 lb ground beef or lamb
    • 1/2 cup red wine
    • 2 large tomatoes, chopped
    • 2 tbsp tomato paste
    • 3 tbsp parsley, chopped
    • 2 tbsp oregano, chopped
    • 2 tsp cinnamon
    • 1 tsp allspice
    • 1 cup of béchamel sauce (recipe below)
    • 1 cup kefalotiri or parmesan cheese, grated
    • For the béchamel sauce:
    • 3 tablespoons butter
    • 5 tablespoons flour
    • 2-3 cups milk
    • 2 teaspoon nutmeg or allspice
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
