    Ingredients

    • 2-3 tablespoons olive oil
    • 1 large onion, finely diced
    • 4 cloves garlic, minced
    • ½ cup strong red wine (like chianti)
    • 2 28-oz cans good quality crushed tomatoes (like Tutto Rosso)
    • approx. ½ cup finely chopped fresh Italian parsley, basil, thyme, and/or oregano
    • 2 teaspoons salt
    • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
    • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper (or to taste)
