    1. Cover chopped fresh herbs with olive oil in a small bowl. Microwave on high heat for 30 seconds (or until warm). Let steep while you prepare the artichokes. 2. Fill a large pot with one inch of water. Add the garlic and bay leaf. Heat while preparing artichokes. Snip away the tips of the artichoke leaves and cut off top ½ inch. Rub the cut areas with lemon juice to prevent the artichokes from turning brown. Peel the stems and trim to 2 inches. Cut the artichokes in half and scoop out the fuzzy chokes and small inner artichoke leaves. Rub lemon juice all over the inside and exposed cut areas of the artichokes. 3. Place the artichoke halves, cut side down on a steam rack in the pot. Cover and steam for about 20 minutes, until you can easily pull off the outer leaves, and pierce the heart easily with a knife. They can be just a tiny bit less cooked than usual, as you will be cooking them further on the grill. 4. Brush artichokes all over with the herb infused oil. Sprinkle with salt. Place the halves cut-side-down on the grill. Cover and grill for 5 to 10 minutes, until you have nice grill mark on the cut sides of the artichokes. To serve, sprinkle the cut sides with more lemon juice. Serve alone or with mayonnaise, remoulade, or aioli.
