    • 1 tablespoon black peppercorns, lightly crushed

    • 1 cup dried black Mission figs, halved
    • 1 1/2 cups cognac or brandy
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard
    • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
    • 2 tablespoons sherry vinegar or red wine vinegar
